TOP 5 BOOKS ON BEAUTY & STYLE
I believe that learning about more than the current trends of the season is so important to maintaining a sense of true style. Style by definition is an equation and that equation is different or each individual but there are many values, visual cues, and facts that never change. Examples of constant style & beauty truths are great skin care can not be replaced, investing solely in accessories is a mistake, yes today does matter even if you see those people everyday, quality in both and style begets quality. No matter how you look at it you have to educate yourself about your whole personal style picture.
I chose 5 books that really inspire me when it comes to image in general. For me beauty and style are hand in hand. You can not rock a hot outfit with out framing it. For me grooming, hair, as well as personal care fr both men and women takes precedence in order to truly take your look to the next level. The combination of both are the keys to being a total package.
I will work on a Top 10 magazine list over the next week or so. I want to make sure you, my virtual client, has great resources to keep you inspired. Whether you are newly single looking for a renewed sense of self r you just feel like it is time to step up your game. I am a firm believer that great advice comes from experts that lend their years of experience to give you an alternate prospective other than your own.
1. Beauty Equation by +Nigel Barker
I really loved the general outlay of the book as well as the simplicity of the delivery. What he says about you being the star of the show is so important because confidence is the foundation of all success n life. He gives you insight on being objective as well as challenging you accepted definition of who you are. I love the quotes too.
(I give it 4 stars )
2. Beauty by Lauren Conrad
Lauren is very thorough in this book that covers everything from makeup to skin care. My favorite thing that she does is give you a list of ingredients to avoid. Often women's lack of education works to their skin's deficit. There are two parts Prep and then the other section is called Play. The Play section really gives you beauty techniques as well as manicure advise. Home run for Lauren Conrad!
(I give it 5 stars)
3. You Are What You Wear by Dr. Jennifer Baumgartner
OMG just amazing! As a total image stylist/ image consultant I find the psychology of clothing, beauty, fashion, and what people are drawn to while shopping so interesting. From the shape of your bag to the height of your heels you are saying something to the world. From quiz topics to great transformation advice I love the introspective reflections in this book. It is a great body of information in general but I am just amazd at the amazing points that this book brings to the surface. It creates incredible dialogue that will help you really analyze what your style choices are saying when aren't speaking.
(I give it 5 stars)
4. Face Forward by +Kevyn Aucoin
Timeless is the only word to describe all of the books that Kevyn wrote before he passed. He worked with legends like Tina Turner, did covers for Elle, Vogue and Rolling Stone just to name a few. I mean even Janet Jackson and Vanessa Williams rocked his work. Face Forward gives you a glimpse at ho to create you most beautiful self. I am still in awe years later. I reread this book often like something will change. Every woman should indulge in these amazing pages.
(I give it 1 MILLION STARS!)
5. The Truth About Style by Stacy London
A clear industry front running talent Stacy London is incredible. From her show What Not to Wear and her other incredible books comes this great body of knowledge written from the prospective of a true style maven. I love that she does not hold her tongue about building her own confidence. Women need to know that there are other accomplished women who battled themselves and won. She is brilliant and so is her amazing approach to style.
( I give it 4 stars)

It is a simple opportunity for you to really connect with other industry professionals from the comfort of your phone while you are at work, the anonymity of your computer or even your tablet while you take a break at work.
Simply put beauty is a flexible concept that I want women to be fearless in pursuing. That's A Wrap - Time to Review What We Learned!
Each of our celeb guests really brings a lot to the table. From basic beauty knowledge to helping you figure out how to overcome your fear of change in your beauty routine our celeb guests answered questions from several different ladies yesterday and one of the ones I thought really impacted me was a #MakeMeUp party goer that asked about finding foundation for a woman with large pores. The Product Junkies (@platinumpj)recommended products with BHA/AHA/Retinol to help minimize pores. Their best product that they are using right now is Peter Thomas Roth Max Complexion pads. Check it out for sure!
Janelle Black really rocked with advice on wearing a pop lip for Spring & using all of the products in your makeup bag. Her tip was to have fun by experimenting! She advised trying to use eyeshadow shades for blush and blush for your lips which I will admit I do all the time to keep my tones in my makeup cohesive. I would even say add a pop of your blush in your eyeshadow too. Your face is art!
Karawn Nicole of Beat Face Crew really rocked with some great product must haves like Mac Cosmetics Gold Dust bronzer, using an HD primer to ensure great coverage, foundations by +MAKE UP FOR EVER OFFICIAL, and shopping +ULTA Beauty or +Sephora specifically for Spring colors. I think this advice is on time and on trend for sure. I would also add +Motives Cosmetics Sunset Boulevard Gloss, +Clinique colour lip balm, as well as Laura Mercier's tinted moisturizesr to the 'Must Haves' for Spring beauty list.
Indulge your skin in color while you bask in the sun light. It is so important for you to just relish in your own beauty this Spring. From head to toe pamper your skin by using primers, tons of moisturizer, and be sure to exfoliate. I use +folgers coffee once a week for a full body scrub! I know it sounds crazy but the caffeine is good for your skin!
We also talked about an alternative to a black smokey eye. The alternative I loved the most was a color smokey eye. I am a huge bronzer fan and I love to combine that gorgeous bronzed glow with a hot hint of color. Whether it is day or night the Spring and Summer are all about warming that glow up. Below is the eye we all just loved. It is pretty easy and very attractive for every shade of hottie! Try other colors like pink, yellow, purple and emerald green. You can look at +CARGO COSMETICS BABYLON OR AEGEAN OR +SAM FINE FOR +FASHION FAIR COSMETICS TUNISIAN NIGHTS OR AMALFI THAT WAS RECENTLY FEATURED IN +Ebony Magazine

You are What You Wear
By Liz Everett
We are so used to hearing fitness trainers screaming, “You
are what you eat!” I think it is high time that an image and style consultant
point out that you are what you wear. I can not tell you how many times I have
had a client or random person on the street ask, “Does it really matter what I
wear?”
My answer to that question is absolutely but it is deeper
than image or even the perception of others. I feel that often people throw working on their appearance off as a bi product of their 'busy' life. We are trained to make excuses
for everything from our weight to our comfort level with glamming it up. I say it
is time we all stop kidding ourselves and get to the root of the problem.
The fact of the matter is that style at it’s core will be whatever
you make it. Just as life will be as great or as horrible as your perceive.
That whole glass half full or half empty thing does not just apply to life it also
applies to your image. As a rule I try never to base my total self assessment
on the opinions of others. I base it on the truth about how I feel about
myself. When it comes to client I base my opinion on that person's truth not the opinions they have gathered from others about themselves.
The absolute most honest statement that we can ever make is if
you don’t love yourself it doesn’t matter what you have on. Then again changing
your wardrobe will always change the way you see yourself. Change is a good
thing. You just have to know how to use it to progress in your life.
I often feel that people think changing the way they dress
means they are selling out on basic ideas or something. Altering your
appearance does not have to be a result of becoming a fake version of yourself.
It is really the result of taking a closer look at yourself and learning to
tell the truth. You have to be willing to change your past to gain success in the future. If you change nothing about your personal patterns then gaining renewed success is not possible.
So many times I have found myself locked in the handcuffs of
life. Hands locked behind my back I trudge along acting, thinking, and dressing
like the other people around me when in fact I did not even like that bag or
those shoes. Over the years I have trained myself to really study how I feel,
my personal energy, ad what I truly love. I have learned to use fashion, beauty
as well as color to inspire me.
No more letting other people set the boundaries of fabulous
in my life or yours. From this day forth we are taking the bull by his
rhinestone horns! Cheers to everyday fabulous!
