Foot fail or Heel-tabulous?

There are so many different types of heels and great shoes on the market that it totally frustrates me to see women in ugly shoes. For me fashion and beauty is a total expression of joy! You should make it a practice to stop just saving your joyful expression for a night out on the town. You really have to start looking at your shoe closet so that you can figure out what you have that is amazing and where you need to start revamping.

Maybe you are happy with your current state of wardrobe or accessory collection but you have noticed that your shoe collection is lacking. Well girlfriend I would advise you to stop the ugly shoe madness! Update, upgrade and revamp from the tip to the top of your shoe wardrobe. I would begin with your work shoes while slowly working your way around to those ugly house slippers as well as your athletic shoes. Many people do not realize that athletic shoes actually have a shelf life so it is important to refresh your shoe closet.

You may just think about it from a perspective of fashion but you really have to consider your foot health. The American Association for Women Podiatrists recently published an article called High Heels - High Fashion that can Hurt Your Feet. ( http://americanwomenpodiatrists.com/foot-health-info.htm )  It is a great article and really got me thinking about the fact that we often buy shoes for the value of fashion but forget to value the feet that are walking in them. Reasons why you have to keep an eye on your shoe collection so that as you update you can really think about the long term effect on your foot. Fashionable heels will never go out of style but you can create a great base of shoes that are glam with a touch of comfort.

Dr. Reid who is the podiatrist quoted in the article gives some incredible tips like doing stretching exercises after wearing heels and testing your heels in the store. These are basic things that we have children do in the store like walk down the isle or stand on one foot to test the shoe's stability. Truth be told as you grow up you forget how important that is to your general foot health to have a sense of stability. I feel that the simple habits you form while shopping will aid in the longevity of  your fashion-ability as well as your health.

You and I both know that rocking a hot pair of heels is one of the most incredible things any woman can do. Especially when we get tons of compliments. Two companies I would recommend for a shoe that is fashionable yet full of comfort are Cole Haan and Vince Camuto. Cole Haan is a Nike off shoot brand and has some great work appropriate styles that will keep you looking great with tons of comfort. I had a great experience at their flag ship store several years ago. On the other hand Vince Camuto is my lifestyle brand. I live work and play in everything Vince!

Depending on my bookings for the day I may have to do everything from meetings to one on one sessions or photo shoots all in one day. The list can be endless but at the end of the day I have to look fabulous getting it done. So one of my suggestions would be to find a brand that really fits your lifestyle as well as your feet. Several years ago while I was working in San Antonio I had to run to a department store to grab a couple of pairs of heels for a gala. I picked up my first pair of Vince Camuto heels and over the years I have also realized that their boots fit my weird leg better than any other as well. I have a smaller ankle and a muscular calf so I always have problems but I don't even have to try on a pair of their boots to know if they are going to fit which makes shopping faster.

A great fit leads to a great relationship with that amazing pair of shoes so be sure to buy only what you love. The most important advice I can give you besides picking a brand that fits your lifestyle is to be sure that you love everything from the fit to the design before you even put those heels in your closet. We don't want you to be the girl in the club who is trying to walk like her feet don't hurt.

Make ME Up

I just feel that in the scheme of everything beautiful your cosmetic and beauty choices should be very simple. Whether you want to have a super complex smokey eye with a color pop or you want to just do a bronzed goddess face with a sun kissed glow being fabulous begins with a great face.

The official first day of Spring is Wednesday March 20 but if you are waiting until then to update your look you will already be behind because summer won't be far behind. So what can you do while it is still freezing to start preparing for the best Spring/Summer ever? There are so many skin basics that  you can do to prepare for the sunshine. Then we will wrap this post back around to some beauty basics to get you thinking about the drama that Spring will bring.

Skin Prep for Spring
Winter can totally take a toll on your skin so make sure you are preparing yourself in advance. When you think about your skin it is really important that you live in preparation because there are always factors like age, environment, and personal care that take a toll. Three things that are especially important in the winter as well as year round for skin prep are: 1) exfoliating once a week 2) daily skin balm &/or moisturizer 3) always take your makeup off before bed

Spring into Beautiful
This Spring the drama will be in the eyes. Think back to the amazing beauty icons of the day Brigette Bardot, Raquel Welch, and Twiggy. As we move closer to the joy of Spring it will be important for you to create a look for yourself that transforms the way others see you. I guess you could say, "Have eyeliner will strut!"

As I continue to cover the amazing trends of Spring I don't want to leave out the important things that your face will add to your overall visual presentation. Focus on learning to really make your eye pop to be on target for Spring.

Personal Swag

I am a huge believer that you do not have to be perfect to be beautiful. When you think of a Barbie doll then yes you think of physical perfection but that has no baring on whether or not she is well rounded. Fit, fab, kind, stylish, and confident are the keys to developing personal swag. You see the most intoxicating fragrance a woman can wear is confidence!

Many of you have heard the term swag but I really want to take a moment to apply it to your life. Swag is really just a way of expressing the fact that you should seek unadulterated confidence in yourself as well as your personal style. Sometimes we are all afraid to take style risks but the fact of the matter is that there is no great reward without taking a chance on being fabulous!

You can have the most expensive handbag or the hottest heel but without a level of self confidence your total swag quotient is lacking and so is your outfit. There are keys to becoming more confident. I will list my top 5 below but the most important thing you will ever do before you get dressed is look in the mirror with total self admiration.

Top 5 Ways to Develop Personal Swag
1. Celebrate your personal victories!
2. Pick out 3 things you love about yourself!
3. Reflect on the things other people compliment you on.
4. Only buy clothing you love! If you just LIKE it .... put it back!
5. Wear the sexiest shoes ALL THE TIME!

New Year New You..... or is it?

Welcome to 2013!
Lets challenge ourselves to be more than amazing!

On the first day of the New Year there is so much to think about. We are on the verge of an incredible chance to start  2013 off right. No more broken promises to ourselves and resolutions that go up in flames!  It is time to wrap our brains around living our best lives from every angle. I do not think that there is a perfect equation in life, but I do feel that balance is key.

Looking back on 2012, I have been working on refining my vision of who I am as a creative soul, lover of fashion, beauty guru, and budding professional image consultant. I have taped segments with EHow, curled the hair of glamorous maidens across the land, given speeches to thousands of people, and wardrobed some of the most amazing talents in the industry - but there is so much more for me to accomplish in this life. Fashion and beauty inspire me!

The transition we all experience as we step our game up is often a tough challenge but it is worth it. This is the perfect time of year to set your goals, sights and standards higher. You know on average we just think about what we want to achieve but we must also consider what we are willing to sacrifice. I am willing to give it all up to follow the path I know was ordained for me.

So let's talk 3 keys to stepping up your Life & Style in 2013

1. Let's begin with a personal inventory
Take an account of the things in your life and in your closet that are working for you and the things that you need to step up or throw out. I started working on my shoe wardrobe this fall and I am going to keep working my shoes , bags and accessories hard til summer then I will switch over to garments. I also have to say that I have to kill it with following through as well as following up when it comes to business as well as friends.

2. Nail down a personal goal for each season
There are four seasons each year and four different opportunities for you to change your style as well as your outlook. Go through your closet to look at what you will be wearing at different points of the year. Then step back and ask yourself if that wardrobe truly reflects who you want to be. Your life & wardrobe are a mirror to the world.

3. Change your personal description
I always tell clients to think about what you want people to say about you when you leave the room. Tweaking your overall presence is very important to your personal delivery both at work and in your personal life. You are who you create yourself to be.
